North 24 Parganas Sammyao Sramogibi Samity (NSSS)
NSS is a non-profit organisation based in 2004 by three young people of Baduria block. The organisation seeks to address the cause of children and women’s well being in rural, backward and under privileged parts of West Bengal without any consideration of their religion, caste, community and social standing. Manika Sarkar, Secretary of North 24 Parganas Sammyo Sramogibi Samity (NSS), a social welfare organization has started its journey in 2004 with the activities of establishing ‘Bidi Sramik’s rights.
Manika herself as a survivor of child marriage has started her work for the minor girls often belonging to economically weaker sections of the society. While working, she saw that there is not only social and emotional damage in child marriage but also the risk of being trafficked. Then she started working against human trafficking especially child trafficking, since 2006 with a group of volunteers. Her objective is to eradicate the risk of unsafe migration due to gender-based discrimination in the families through awareness and livelihood creation for both girls and boys.
The organisation seeks to empower and mobilize girls and young women from rural disadvantaged and socially backward villages, in India, enabling them to become active change agents of their communities. Over the years, NSS has provided education, legal, rescue, rehabilitation and income generation support to more than 500 beneficiaries.
